Welcome to KEMS

Who we are
We’re a music society comprising four sections: Macclesfield Singers (a large mixed-voice choir); Macclesfield Symphony Orchestra; Macclesfield  Concert Band; and Macclesfield Contemporary Ensemble. Our friendly members, who cover a wide age range, have one thing in common: they  take making music very seriously, always striving for the best possible performances while enjoying themselves immensely.
OPEN TO ALL!
If you’re a keen singer, don’t miss our SINGING WORKSHOP led by our musical director
 IAN CHESWORTH on Saturday, 11th September. Tickets now on sale!

KEMS and Covid-safe gatherings (rehearsals, workshops and concerts)

Last summer (2020) King Edward Musical Society drew up and implemented protocols appropriate to each section of the Society following a full risk assessment, to ensure as much protection as possible for members taking part in live rehearsals. These protocols are under regular review as the national picture changes. They are available on this website should you wish to see them;
Once concerts and workshops are permitted, Covid regulations at that time will inform a new risk assessment and a review of protocols for both audience and performers’ safety.  These will be published on this website, so do please check at the relevant time for details.  The situation is changing regularly and it would be meaningless for us to publish such protocols at the present time.

Our first concert of the 2021-2022 season is scheduled for Saturday 13th November 2021, and the relevant documents will be posted as soon as tickets are on sale (October 2021).
There is also a Singing Day on 11th September (open to the public) and the relevant Covid protocols will be posted here by the end of July 2021.

This procedure will be implemented for all concerts and events thereafter as long as the pandemic remains a concern.

In all cases, the risk assessment and protocols will be subject to last-minute change should the national or local situation require it, and ticket-money will be reimbursed in the event of cancellation.

Calling all Students!
KEMS is particularly keen to attract student members. If you are a full-time student, membership of KEMS is FREE.  Pease e-mail our Chair Lynne Spedding  or our Treasurer Paul Spedding if you would like to know more.
We are, of course, hoping and expecting that normal concerts will resume in the autumn.  Click HERE for details of our first concert of the 2021-22 season on Saturday, 13th November.
