Joining KEMS

So why might you want to join KEMS? If you enjoy playing, singing or listening to good music, here are whole host of reasons you'll enjoy being a member of KEMS. And if you are under 26, membership is absolutely FREE (see below)!

Who we are
We're a friendly society with a wide age range whose members take making music very seriously, always striving for our best performance.

Standard season
The standard annual subscription of 90 pounds covers the cost of joining the choir, orchestra or concert band which involves attending 32 two-hour rehearsals led by our professional musical directors, all music hire and costs associated with mounting four concerts.

Optional extras
In addition to our standard season we organise a number of optional extra events and performing opportunities (some of which incur an additional charge) including an annual day-long orchestral workshop, a programme of summer chamber music playing, chamber music workshop days, performing at local events such as Buxton Fringe Festival.

Social programme
We have after-rehearsal pub gatherings each week; an orchestral Christmas meal out; and an after-AGM summer drinks and nibbles social.

DO YOU NEED ME?
As with many amateur music societies applications to join are especially welcome from male voices and brass/percussion/string players. However, if you are interested and don't fit one of those categories please do still contact us!

We are particularly interested to hear from wind, brass and percussion players who would be interested in joining our Concert Band or for lovers of new or experimental music who would like to join KEMS Contemporary.

There are no auditions - just come along and see what we're up to. You can find all the details of times and venues by clicking on the relevant buttons on the left.

ARE YOU UNDER 26?
KEMS is keen to involve more young people in music-making. If you are under 26 years of age, membership of KEMS is FREE. It ’s a great opportunity to develop your singing or playing skills - and making new friends with similar interests.
